Retreat Highlights

The mother who influenced the Mother of All.
Amma says that for her, everything is her Guru. Everything is here to teach her. But if she were to choose one embodiment, it would be Damayanthiamma, Amma’s birth mother: “Though she didn’t have any spiritual understanding, whatever she showed and advised had a spiritual purport. She was a good role model.” Swamiji will lead a discussion reflecting on the power of a mother to influence her children, and therefore the world.

Participatory Gurupaduka Puja
To inaugurate the retreat, Swami Dayamritananda Puri will guide participants in a participatory Gurupaduka Puja (ceremony honoring the guru) to seek blessings and quiet the mind. When worship is done with an attitude of surrender and selflessness, the action can benefit the whole world. Invoke Amma’s blessings in your own home during this special participatory puja. Detailed instructions will be shared on what is needed to participate at home, or the puja can be done mentally as a manasa puja.

Satsang and Q&A
During the retreat, Swamiji will give a satsang (spiritual talk) in which he will explore the topic of the retreat “The Inevitability of Finding Oneness.” He will also offer practical guidance on how to develop a deeper connection with Amma, and each other. Additionally, there will be a question and answer session for retreat participants to ask Swamiji spiritual questions. Both are profound opportunities to reflect on how to apply Amma’s teachings to our everyday lives.

The story of a dedicated soul
Seva, selfless service, is a core tenet of Amma’s teachings. Amma says “To receive the opportunity to do Seva and serve the world is a gift from God.” Ron Gottsegen was a good example of Amma’s teaching of selflessness. Instrumental in the establishment of Amma’s centers in North America, and Amrita Hospital, Kochi, Ronji lived a life of service and profound love for Amma. Swamiji will lead a discussion reflecting on Ronji’s commitment to Amma, seva, and the example he serves for all of us.

Deepen your sadhana (spiritual practice)
Ready to deepen your spiritual practices? Participate in chanting and singing divine names, heart centered yoga, seated meditation and more! Led by Swamiji and Amma’s other senior disciples and long time devotees, the sadhana offered during the retreat are a beautiful opportunity to recharge your spiritual practices at home, quiet your mind, and deepen your relationship with yourself.

Amma and Nature: The Amritapuri dogs
Amma says: “When we see Mother Nature as the embodiment of God, we will automatically serve and protect her. If we approach nature with love, it will serve us as our best friend, a friend that won’t let us down.” Looking to Amma’s love of plants and animals can teach us so much about how to live in harmony with Mother Nature. Since childhood, animals have been part of Amma’s daily life. In the last 20 years, Amritapuri, Amma’s ashram in India, has had three dogs as part of the community. Their interactions with Amma bring joy to everyone who witnesses them, but these relationships also carry deeper meaning. Join us for a special session to learn about Tumbhan, Bhakti, and Shakti and their special connection with Amma.
